The Start of Something New

Written by Buccaneer Scroll Staff Reporter Sara Tilton

This year at Allatoona, we added a new sport to our list of many; flag football. In its first year, it has already accomplished so much. This year, the girls on the flag football team won the area tournament and their first playoff game. They have an undefeated record and are advancing to the second round of playoffs. “It’s so cool. To know that I was part of the first team is really awesome. I think the program can go really far, especially with the tone this team has set for the future.” says player Emma Bailey. “Starting the Flag Football program at Allatoona has been a great experience. There have been plenty of challenges, especially with everything related to COVID, but it has been worth it to make it to this point.” says coach Jordan Davis. “To be able to make the playoffs and win the area in the first season is a testament to all the girls on the team. They are extremely coachable and have bought into what we ask them to do. They all have a team-first mindset and play really well together. Our area was the biggest (most teams) in the entire state and was extremely competitive. All four area teams won their first-round playoff games. For them to go out and win that area in the inaugural season is special, and it’s great to be part of that history for our school. Hopefully, this sport will continue to grow and years from now, being to accomplish all of the “firsts” in school history will be something that these players will have wonderful memories of.” he says. Flag Football will play Meadowcreek for the second round of playoffs on December 15th.
