Cheer’s Lauren Thiede and MacKenzie Hale named Athletes of the Week

Written by Lexie Hunter – Newspaper Staff Reporter

This week we have two athletes of the week, Mackenzie Hale and Lauren Thiede. Coach Gratzer says, “both girls stepped in to fill huge holes this past competition at Lassiter and did such an amazing job. They always have a smile on their face and are always encouraging their teammates! Their drive and dedication to this team are unmeasurable.”

Mackenzie has been cheering for four years and plans to attend the University of North Georgia to study kinesiology after graduating in the spring. She believes she was chosen for athlete of the week for her “work ethic and willingness to step in when the team needs me.” MacKenzie’s advice to younger athletes is to “enjoy your time doing your sport and always give 110% and be open to new experiences.”

Lauren has been cheering for eight years and is also on the varsity competition squad at Allatoona. Her favorite part about cheer is the new friendships that form each season. She believes she was chosen for athlete of the week because she is “always trying my best while staying positive and cheering others on.” Lauren’s advice to younger athletes is “always try your best, and in the end, it will all pay off!”
