Coach McLaughlin has a B.A. in Psychology from Mercy College and a M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of West Georgia, and she has been teaching for twelve years and coached for four summers at West Point Basketball Camps while in college. In high school, Coach McLaughlin competed in basketball, field hockey, and softball, and she continued to compete in basketball all four years at Mercy College on a full athletic scholarship while also playing golf for two years. During her senior year at Mercy, she received the Coach’s Award. Coach McLaughlin has been married to James McLaughlin for twenty years, and they have three children at Allatoona High School: James, a senior; Jack, a junior; and Julia, a freshman.

Coach McLaughlin views her parents, Ed and Anita Gentile as her mentors as they never allowed her to give up and lead by setting a good example, and she finds inspiration from the quotation, “Be somebody that makes everybody feel like a somebody.”
