Coach Phillip Adams has a B.S. in Family and Consumer Science Education from the University of Georgia where he attended on a track scholarship, broke a school record, and ranked top ten in school history in multiple events. Prior to that, graduated from Woodland High School in Cartersville, Georgia, where he competed in football, basketball, and track and field. Coach Adams has been teaching since January 2014, and during that time has coached one year as a middle school track and field head coach and nine years as a high school varsity track and field head coach. During that time, Coach Adams has coached over fourteen region champions in sprints, hurdles, and relays; coached a school record breaking boys 4x100m relay team, boys 100m, 200m, and 400m, and girls 4x400m relay team; coached the county record holder in the 100m and 200m dash; coached eight state qualifiers and over 50 section qualifiers; and coached two state finalists.

Coach Adams is married to his wife of seven years, Jhanelle Adams, and they have two daughters, Zuri and Noni. He has three mentors. The first is Laron “Bud” Bennett. They trained together at Georgia, and he is now an assistant coach at the University of Virginia. The second is Jon Stuart, who was Coach Adams’ college coach, and helped him become the coach he is today. The third is Nat Page. He is a multiple Olympic qualifier as well as being a coach of the USA Team for the Olympics and World Championship teams.

Coach Adams draws inspiration from the quotation found in 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, which states: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”
