It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Granger Invitational Tennis Tournament

Written by Gabby Penge – Newspaper Staff Reporter

This past weekend, our Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis Teams took their annual trip down to LaGrange, Georgia, for the Granger Invitational Tennis Tournament. The girls had their first match at 1:00 PM on Friday and were able to pull out a win 4-1 against Jefferson. That same day at 6:00 PM, the girls had taken another 4-1 victory over Carrolton to put them in the championship the next day. On that Saturday, the girls played their championship match at 2:00 PM against Christian Heritage and gave it their all. Unfortunately, the team ended up losing 2-3 but was still able to receive second place and a nice big trophy, which is something they should all be proud of. Even though the girls did not win first place, every one of them stayed positive and remembered to play with their hearts and just have fun. Gabby and Izzy Penge, who play line 1 doubles and went 3-0 over the weekend, both say, “LaGrange was always one of our favorite parts about the season, and it has never failed to bring our team closer together as a family.”

As for the boys, they were able to pull out a win in the first round but ended up losing in the second round 2-3. Although the lines who lost each lost in a ten-point tie breaker after making a comeback in the second set, which showed how hard those boys fought. Losing that second round had them play for third or fourth place the next Saturday, and the boys were able to come out with a win and place for third. Senior Preston Diller says, “LaGrange is always our favorite part about the season. For dinner, we went to IHOP, and Coach Hicks challenged us that whoever ate the most pancakes would get their food paid for. Little memories like that are what makes this trip amazing.” Congratulations to both the Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis Teams!
