Alex Holmgren has a BA in Russian Studies and Political Science from Auburn University and a MS in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State and has been coaching for 20 years, 2001 – 2008 at Kennesaw Mountain High School, and from 2008 to present at Allatoona High School.  In high school, he competed in basketball, cross country, and track and field.  He continued to compete in cross country and track and field at Auburn University.  He has coached two Track and Field State Championship Teams.

Coach Holmgren has two sons, Miller and Carter, ages 17 and 13.  Miller runs cross country and track for Harrison High School, and Carter runs track and field for the Junior Bucs.  As mentors, Coach Holmgren looks up to Kelly Sullivan, the Seattle University Head Coach and former Auburn University Cross Country Coach; Dave Ravenscraft, former Allatoona and Kennesaw Mountain Coach; and Dr. Thomas “Tinman” Schwartz.  He finds inspiration from Sting, who sang, “When the world is running down/ You make the best of what’s still around.”
